The performing arts industry thrives on diversity, creativity and cultural exchange, yet many communities continue to face systemic barriers that limit access, representation, and progression into the performing arts world.
The TIRED Movement are issuing an open call to South Asian performers, artists, and creatives to take part in an important new research project aimed at identifying, addressing and overcoming these challenges.
In collaboration with the incredible Talia Palamathanan, this long-overdue initiative seeks to explore, question, and uncover the structural and cultural barriers experienced by the South Asian community across dance, theatre, and the wider performing arts sector.
Why This Research Matters
Despite the rich cultural contributions of South Asian artists, there remains a lack of visibility, equitable opportunities, and support within the industry. This research project is designed to:
- Identify key challenges faced by South Asian creatives in performing arts
- Amplify underrepresented voices and lived experiences
- Gather insights to inform meaningful, long-term change
- Create a more inclusive and accessible arts landscape
