Since we founded the TIRED Movement in 2020, we have worked tirelessly to challenge the dance industry to become more inclusive, so to see that a global dance competition has announced 39 amazingly talented judges for their 2025 Finals and have such a lack of racial representation is so disappointing.

TIRED has partnered with some of the leading performing arts colleges including Laine Theatre Arts, Performers College, Bird College, London Studio Centre and Shockout Arts to collaborate on a 3-year research project and the development of a framework that can be embedded in all vocational colleges to ensure the appropriate steps are taken for inclusive dance education. 🎭

The Representation and Equity in Dance (RED) research project, led by Dr. Imogen Aujla and TIRED co-founder Stacey Green, has released groundbreaking findings on the profound effects of discrimination on dance students’ well-being.

On the 5th of June, TIRED held a webinar in response to the wave of conversation within the dance community across social media.  Attendees raised heartfelt concerns about the selection of judges on the panel and how it did not reflect the global diversity of the dance world it represents.

The collective decision was made to write an open letter to the Chairman of the Dance World Cup, as there has been no acknowledgement or statement from the board regarding the issues raised. Many comments added to their social media page by the dance community were deleted, which in short displays the silencing of voices.

Representation is not optional, it’s essential. This is an urgent call to the global dance and performing arts community and all arts organisations shaping our diverse dance world to stand with us by signing our petition ⏰
